Jaskier didn’t want to marry just any noblewoman--no matter how comely she may be--he wanted adventure and many loves, but most importantly his biggest, greatest love of all.
He is not expecting that love to be in the form of a brooding stranger sitting at the back of a tavern.
In one instant his breath catches in his throat at the beauty of the man before him and in the next, there’s a burning sensation on the bottom of his heel as his mark makes itself known. It’s pain and pleasure knotted together, roses surrounded by thorns.

Geralt is injured while protecting Ciri and help comes in the form of one heartbroken bard. Jaskier still believes that the witcher hates him and Geralt, well, Geralt is too unconscious to argue. That leaves the hunted princess and the bard to heal new wounds, and perhaps some old ones as well.

“I’m sorry,” Geralt sneers. “The next time you sleep with some idiot lord’s wife, I’ll just let him run you through with his sword, shall I?”
“You could have said anything!” Jaskier shrills at him. “Did you have to tell him that— That I was—”
“My Nilfgaardian love slave?” Geralt prompts helpfully.
“THAT!”
And Jaskier watches, transfixed, as a slow dirty smile curls up the side of Geralt’s mouth. “What? You don’t think you’d like it?”
(or, five times geralt and jaskier had to pretend to be in, like, a violently sexual relationship, and one time... well.)

With the help of her husband, Rhaenyra is set to gain new allies, both outside the Keep, but also, within her own family.
