Written pieces, canonically belonging to a Death Note AU where Light is cornered by L at the wrapping of Yotsuba Arc, through which he's taken in by L & hidden away. Shortly after, they inhabit a house away from civilization in the middle of the Canadian woods, which becomes their residence for the foreseeable future.

All his life, Near had set his sights on becoming L's successor; working in a shielded enviroment at his own pace. But eventually the realization rains upon him that the day he might be deployed as such must still be far into the future. Soon turning 16 and being taught nothing but to float through life, working long hours to perfect himself as a detective, leaves him inept in many skills.
Who can tell if he'd be able to live under the protection of Wammy's House long-term?Mello allows Near to stay by his side, working as his accomplice while traveling, providing for the two of them in return. Living in the same quarters and caring for one another, Mello realizes he might not feel about Near the way he once thought.
