Summary
“You’re fond of him,” Xiao Wei says as they approach the doors of the Palace of Entertainment.
“You’ll have to clarify, I am fond of many,” James says as he opens the door for Xiao Wei. “After you, my dear princess,” he bows.
“It’s different with Sherlock, you cannot fool me James,” Xiao Wei states as she swishes on by, inside into the cooler lobby.
James’ grin twists a bit, going sharp as his eyes are going dark, eyes of a shark as Xiao Wei needlessly bleeds at a wound that shouldn't be touched. “Yes, yes, it is different with him. I tend to keep it that way.”

Or maybe Sherlock getting shot in front of James fucks him up more than he thought it would and it becomes everyone's Problem and doesn't entirely change the course of things, but dramatically changes their entire relationship.

Summary
In retrospect, they should have assumed something like this could happen. James will blame himself later on, insisting he should have known that there was a chance this could be a consequence of their involvement in ending Silas’ schemes.
(Sherlock will, of course, tell him it’s not his fault, even as he grimaces in pain while doing so.)
It comes in the form of a package from Sherlock’s mother.
(Or: James and Sherlock are taken by one of Silas’s former partners. Conversations are had, secrets are shared, and revelations come to light. Heavy on the whump.)

Summary
‘Sherlock,’ the way James says his name sends shivers down Sherlock’s spine. He unconsciously leans closer, wanting more of his touch; a mix of contradicting feelings reflecting on his face.
James knows that no matter how much Sherlock wants to pretend otherwise, he is deeply dependent on the people he cares about. Maybe that’s the reason he hasn't made any friends before James: the fear of trusting the wrong person led him to isolation which felt far more comfortable than having his heart broken.
The truth is, James doesn’t want to cause Sherlock any pain. He wants him back, that’s all.

Sherlock doubts his morality and turns to James for support, but James has his own agenda. Betrayal, broken trust and family drama lead to a strange relationship between them.
