“You’re drunk,” Mu Qing finally says, keeping his voice carefully blank. “You should go back, your junior officials must be looking for you - “
“Don’t wanna go back,” Feng Xin slurs. “Wanna stay here.”
Mu Qing freezes again. “You’re drunk," he hisses.In which Feng Xin frets over what to get Mu Qing for his birthday, somehow ends up drunk at Mu Qing's palace (don't ask), and goes on a demon-slaying not-date with his crush.

The forest is eerily quiet. The soft hoots and rustled feathers of barn owls are dampened by the viscous fog, as it seeps into the cool grass and whispers at their feet.
“Fog? Really?” Mu Qing deadpans, as they wade deeper into the woods. “How original.”
“COME OUT, YOU FUCKER!” Feng Xin hollers, bow in hand.
“You really think they’ll respond?” Mu Qing rolls his eyes. “Only an idiot would—"
»Who dares to trespass on our land?«
“Would you look at that,” Mu Qing snarks, “this ghost dude’s an idiot, too.”
Or; Feng Xin and Mu Qing are assigned on a mission: to track down the rumoured “Ghost Killer”.

Summary
For Day 3 of Fengqing week! College AU.
Xie Lian has started skipping their lunch hours together at college to hang out with a guy Feng Xin and Mu Qing simply don't trust. Their spying-no, it's not spying-leads them to spend more time together, and Feng Xin catches himself feeling very weird things.
This was meant to be short, but I got a bit carried away. Enjoy! :)
As a sidenote, I know people usually don't facetime each other to work on school projects ever, but this quarantine is clearly affecting the way I'm experiencing college life, lol. -
