Scar's face hardened. “State alchemists are far from innocent. They are a plague on this Earth, and I will wipe them out.”
Roy clicked the safety off. Scar didn't even flinch. “Big words from someone who's been using alchemic destruction to kill them.”
“It's not the same. What I'm doing is justice.”
“What you're doing is murder,” Roy snapped. “And the only reason that I haven't already pulled this trigger is because I don't kill lightly. Unlike you.”
Scar stopped. When he spoke again, his voice sent chills down Roy's spine. “Oh? You mean to tell me that you aren't a murderer yourself? Hero of Ishval?”
Or the one where Roy is the one to cross paths with a vengeful Scar, instead of Edward. And Roy's limbs aren't made of metal.

Summary
It was a child. A boy, in full Amestrian military uniform, sporting four stripes and one star. And there, on his jacket collar: a State Alchemists pin.
Roy remembers his first thought, quite immaturely, being hang on, aren't I supposed to be the youngest State Alchemist?
His second, more sensible thought was less coherent and more a visceral flood of fearsome protection and despair, and the accusatory assessment that this was no place for a child.

Edward complied without much fight, though his brow twitched with early irritation.
"I’m fine," his voice muffled through the plastic.
"Doesn't matter, Major." The medic's tone was professionally blunt. "No offence, but you're much more likely to develop complications than any other soldier here. Smoke exposure just compounds it."
Edward bristled immediately. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"Means you're a walking medical liability, Chief," Havoc called out cheerfully, cigarette dangling from his lips. "High maintenance."
