Gem was not sure how she ended up in this infuriating predicament. See she worked at a fish and chips shop on the boardwalk by cherry mountain beach in Hemittown with her best friend and fishing buddy Grian, no surprisingly he was not the problem here that honor went to Pearl.
Pearlescent Pearl Moon was a menace and Grian’s twin sister and it seemed like her entire life’s purpose was to bug Gem.

“Wow,” Impulse said again, after reading over it properly. “A love letter?”
“A love letter!” Gem repeated, flinging her arms up and gesturing vaguely at the air as she began to rant. “From Pearl, of all people! And she left a present, tons of sweets and flowers, Impulse. Flowers! She gave me flowers!”
“Okay, okay, uh- can we slow down a little?” Impulse said, keeping his voice calm. Gem forced herself to stop pacing and met Impulse eyes, holding back her tongue. “Why exactly is this such a big deal?”
“Because Pearl sent me a love letter! How is that not a big deal?”
(Or, in which Gem re-evaluates her feelings about a certain, very special someone, Pearl is very confused but delighted all the same, and Impulse's master plan has finally come to fruition.)

Pearl fumbled around with her keys and unlocked her apartment, with the other woman following suit. When she looked back at the orange-haired girl she noticed her glasses tilting off her face slightly.
“Wait Gem, let me,” Pearl reached towards Gem’s face, slender fingers brushing the girl’s ear as she readjusted her glasses. She could’ve sworn she saw the girl blush, but she figured it was a trick of the light.
