Summary
He carries Zagreus from the pool of Styx. Hypnos opens his mouth automatically to speak, but clamps it shut at seeing who has emerged. Thanatos takes Zagreus to his chambers, passing by Hades’ desk. The God of the Dead doesn’t even look up. He lays Zagreus out on his bed, and then sits with him until he stutters back to life – normally, if Zagreus had simply been taken by the Styx as he usually is, there would have been enough time for him to come back. Since Thanatos taking him is much faster, there’s a delay.
Zagreus takes a slow breath in, and Thanatos finally lets one out.

Summary
“Can you, um, bring me some clean underwear?” Zagreus’ voice is quiet as it travels from the bathroom to where Thanatos is sitting in their living room, but there’s something in it that catches his attention.
“Everything okay in there?”
Zagreus doesn’t respond right away.
“Zag?”
“Just… bring me some new underwear,” he hears a brief pause followed by, “please?”
Thanatos is confused by the request and starts to get concerned, but based on the sound of Zagreus’ voice, he decides not to press further. “I’ll be right there.”-

Summary
“It’s good to see you too, Zag,” Thanatos says gently before he shoves his scythe away to float midair so both of his arms are free to wrap fully around Zagreus. “I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you as well, Love. You’ve been so busy lately.” Zagreus strokes Thanatos’ face, and he can’t help but lean into Zagreus’ warm touch. “Did you come all this way just to see me?”
“Yes,” Thanatos answers truthfully, turning his face to press a kiss to Zagreus’ palm. Quietly, he adds in a soft tone full of suggestive promise, “I thought that perhaps you and I could take a break.”

It shouldn't feel momentous. But it does. Zagreus can't even recall another instance of his lover singing or playing an instrument. Now, he watches Than sort through his parchmentwork with a tune in the air. He can't help the smile that takes over his face.

“Pomegranate?” Thanatos asked blankly, the flat affect of his voice emphasized in every unimpressed syllable.
“A good snack after work,” Zagreus beamed with a cant of his head to peek at Thanatos from the other side of the plate, “I like to have a snack after training with Achilles. Keeps your energy up and that!” The new angle forced Thanatos to move his gaze elsewhere, where it eventually fell on the pomegranate juice staining Zagreus’ hands and the flesh still stuck in and around his nails.
Thanatos clicked his tongue with thinly veiled disgust.

Summary
When Thanatos admitted to Zagreus it had been over ten years since he had used his wings to physically fly, truth spoken out loud ignited a desire to remedy this.
While preening them would no doubt unearth trauma related to the incident which had lead to their neglect, Thanatos was determined to see it through, if nothing else to finally vanquish the last of the physical evidence he still carried bodily. Then, it could all be laid to rest, once and for all.
And besides, Zagreus would be right there to help him with the task.
“Fine. I will show you how to preen my wings. And after several weeks of tedious and meticulous brushing and oiling and plucking and dusting... then I will take you into my arms and we can take flight together.”---
As Than shows Zag how to preen his wings, he struggles with PTSD related to the Sisyphus incident. Or, as my friend Sarah N put it, “This is going to be a case of ‘himbos make everything better’, isn’t it?”
