Let it be known: Alex didn’t even want to go to the stupid baptism.

Because, like, that’s the reason he’s stranded in the Flats on Sunset Boulevard, still fifteen minutes out—by car—from UCLA, and thirty minutes away from home. All right, technically his car breaking down is the reason he’s stranded, but he wouldn’t have been driving this weekend if it weren’t for the stupid baptism.

“The people we love are all we need, right?” Ray keeps insisting. “That’s what’s most important.”

Summary
Reggie thinks back to the hermit crab, scuttling across the sand at the beach. And how Luke said it must’ve felt so vulnerable being outside its shell. He thinks about how hard it is, going through life without something to protect you.
And he realizes… his friendship with Luke is his old shell. His ‘something more’ with Luke could be his new one. But is it worth the trip? Is it worth the vulnerability? What if things are not as comfortable as they are now?
What if, in his quest to truly find a home in Luke, Reggie loses him instead?
“Do you think hermit crabs are scared to leave their shells?” he asks. “Scared to… find new ones?”
“Maybe,” Luke hums. “Their shells are probably so… familiar. But sometimes familiar’s boring.”
“But how do you know that leaving something familiar will lead to something better?”
“Sometimes you don’t. You just gotta find a new shell anyway.”
