Summary
“Unmated wolves can’t get visas. Not in North America. Not even with the MLH pulling every string they have to get it done.”
The picture snaps into startling clarity. “Him?” Shane blurts, eyes dropping to the phone's screen. “You want me to—what the fuck?”
“It’s a win-win, Shane,” Rob urges. “He gets the visa, you get the bite. Everyone gets what they want.”

Summary
“Unlock the door, Hollander.”
Even though Shane couldn’t hear the exact words, he knew what Ilya said. He shook his head.
“Unlock the door, or I will break the glass. Your choice.”
Shane’s eyes widened again and he briefly hung his head as if regretting all of his past life decisions, and Ilya heard the resounding click of the unlock mechanism.
He felt wild, his mind in violent turmoil as he threw open the door and his palm clutched the back of Shane’s head, his fingers finding purchase in the coarse hair. “Are you listening to me?” Shane ducked his head in acknowledgment. “I’m going to call off my driver. You will not move. I am going to sit there-“ he pointed at the empty passenger seat. “-in this boring car of yours and I am going to find out why the fuck you are alone and who the fuck made you cry.”
*************************************************************
Inspired by Shane’s confession in The Long Game (*mini-spoiler*) about his whereabouts after leaving a certain Montreal nightclub in January 2017, Ilya leaves the club shortly after Shane only to find him pulled over on the side of the road, devastated.

Summary
Shane Hollander has built his life around discipline, legacy, and winning—on the ice and off it. A secret relationship with his rival, Ilya Rozanov, was never meant to become more than stolen nights and unspoken promises. It was never meant to leave Shane staring at a positive pregnancy test in a hotel bathroom.
When Ilya chooses to end things for what he believes is the greater good, Shane is left carrying a secret that could change everything, and a love that refuses to die quietly. As the season presses on and the ice becomes the only place they’re allowed to meet, both men must live with the cost of a decision made in grief, fear, and love.
Some endings are clean. This one is anything but.

Then there's Ilya Rozanov: first overall, unbothered, and already taking up more space in Shane's head than he has any right to.
Their rivalry is the story everyone wants to tell. Shane is starting to suspect the real one is something else entirely.
