Summary
“Come on, Lu, what are you going to do here by yourself for the entire summer?” Giulia pleaded.
Luca leaned back in his chair and took another drink of his San Pellegrino, casually surveying the passersby from behind his sunglasses. It was barely June, but the air was already hot and muggy, and if he was being honest, the thought of a swampy summer alone in the city wasn’t incredibly appealing. But the alternative…
———
Giulia talks Luca into coming home with her to Portorosso, hoping that he and Alberto will mend their broken relationship.
Or: Luca's POV as he deals with his anxiety and tries to let go of the past to let himself be happy in the present.

Summary
Five years after the summer Alberto Scorfano met his two best friends, he’s proud to say he’s already well-versed in how to human. Sailing a boat? Check. Handling harbour market sales? Check. Using his sea monster form to help Signor Marcovaldo collect the best barnacles? Check. Other knowledge has eluded him, though—for example, the appropriate name for the way his heart races every time Luca calls him “caro”.
When June of 1968 arrives to Porto Rosso, and Giulia and Luca return from Geneva with troublesome news, Alberto wishes things would stay as they were in 1963. But as the Underdogs work together to help Giulia avoid the rigid expectations placed on her by her mother, and life in Porto Rosso gets turned upside down once more, he can't help wondering whether sometimes changes might be the start of something better.

Summary
“Giulia. Coffee?” Luca asks from his seat at the kitchen table, in what he hopes is a pathetic enough tone that she’ll make it for him. Giulia gives him a sympathetic look over her shoulder, her hair already tied up in a messy bun. A curl bounces at her temple as she shakes her head.
“Sorry, Luca. All out.”
“Giulia…”
“It's fine, I have a better idea. You know where the science building is?” Luca nods as Giulia is already scribbling the directions on an old pizzeria-flyer, “There’s a little campus cafe just on the far side of the grass, you know where people sometimes study? My brother works there, just tell him I sent you and he’ll sort you out with something. You'll be caffeinated in no time.”
(Luca needs coffee and Alberto has coffee. Seems like a simple enough equation for something that ends up being anything but.)

Summary
Overall, Alberto is pretty happy in Portorosso- he has a great dad, a great sister, and a welcoming community. But six years after a big misunderstanding leads to a bigger mistake, he finds himself struggling. Without Luca in his life to provide some balance, Bruno has become nearly impossible to silence on his own, leading Alberto to search for other methods.
Meanwhile, Giulia and Luca have been flatmates in Pisa where they went to university, and he's done his level best to avoid going home. When Giulia decides she's had enough of both of them being miserable, pining messes, she talks Luca into coming home to Portorosso with her for the summer, hoping the familiar setting and maybe some Chianti will coax them into resolving their conflict and finally getting on with their lives.
