They’ll settle down, her mother’s new man will buy them meaningless gifts to butter them up – pretend he’s their father for the month, week, however long her mother likes him for – before he leaves as well. She probably doesn’t have enough fingers on her hands to count the amount of fathers she’s had in recent years, with zero gay marriage involved, mind you.
Though if you were to ask her honestly, she would probably say that her real life – and her memory – began in Sterling Point. She could tell you about every single day she’s experienced here, about every single step she’s taken and every single person she’s met, as though she’d gained consciousness with the first Canadian winter she experienced.
