“Could’ve sworn we left it here,” Miya hums, chewing on his lip right beside him and making a show of looking up and down the road as if the mere act of putting a hand to his forehead and squinting beneath the shade of it could conjure up their ride.
In any other lifetime, Sakusa might’ve enjoyed this. The quiet nature of being so gently left behind, the sleepy but thriving town. But in this lifetime he’s exhausted, worn down to the bone after matches and extra practice, sore after Miya pushed him to his limit, and all he wants is to be on that bus and on his way home.
“Did ya steal it, Omi-kun?” There’s a playfulness to his tone, cicadas buzzing in between each syllable, growing louder as Miya’s shoulder nudges against his own. He could snap back, be just as cold as he is on the court, but as the grass continues to blow in the wind and Hinata starts to giggle beside him, he lets the lazy air of a summer afternoon melt down his edges.
