Summary
When Bucky fell from that train, when he slipped through Steve’s fingers, it had felt like the end of the world, a cataclysm whose blast radius was limited to one Steven Grant Rogers. Everyone else, he’d thought, could survive it, even if it hurt them. Steve could not. Steve had not, even if that had proven to be a temporary state of affairs.
Now, Steve’s world doesn’t feel like it’s ending. It feels like it’s beginning again: a violent transformation, a terrible rebirth. It roars through him, hope and horror in equal measure, drowning everything else out.
After the Avengers find a frozen Bucky in an abandoned HYDRA base in Siberia, Steve thinks that everything will be okay now that he has Bucky back, now that he's safe and alive and healing, now that they're together again. But Bucky's road to recovery is long, and Steve and Bucky have fundamentally different ideas about what it means to come home from the war seventy years later than they'd expected to. Those different ideas might even be irreconcilable. Even if Steve has found Bucky, he's going to have to reckon with the ways he's lost himself along the way, or risk losing Bucky forever.

Summary
The rifle was a hard, solid line across his back. Somewhere above his head the sun was still floating high in the sky. Everything further than ten paces was covered in the same brown, putrid soup. They called it fog, but it was more like a gaseous sludge rolling up from the bay, the smell of burning chemicals and garbage left out to rot on a hot summer day.
In a world that's gone to hell, everybody needs something to anchor them in the moment. Sometimes that thing is the person you thought you'd let go.
A rescue mission gone badly might be what tips the scales.Series

Summary
“But you’re my friend.”
Steve blinked, his lips twisting, and Bucky was sure he understood all too well, could see everything that was going on in his head with more clarity than Bucky really wanted to. Yet, the question Steve asked still felt like being punched.
“Am I really?”
When Bucky realized he’d need help after escaping from Hydra after the helicarriers fell, he returned to New York. The Avengers helped him get better, and he was doing well enough, but there were still things that were difficult, among them his relationship with Steve.
There were things he felt he had to hide, and he tried to keep them from interfering, but they only ended up driving a wedge into their relationship, and what was worse, he didn’t realize how bad it was until Steve was already leaving, getting on his bike and heading out to find his own peace.

Summary
“You’re not dancing,” Bucky chides, a crooked tilt to his grin softening the edge of his teasing glare. “Come on, Stevie, our kid got hitched today. And Cassie ain’t so bad, Pietro coulda done worse for himself.”
It’s the Stevie that gives him away, and Steve clucks his tongue in mock reprimand. Bucky hasn’t called him Stevie in over ten years—at least not when he’s sober.
Faced with his kid’s wedding, a twinkling secluded grove, and an ex-husband fresh off the dance floor, Steve Rogers can’t help but reflect on the road that’s led him here.
