It was not the exams that concerned Wednesday, nor was it any imminent threats of death; it was what came after. When university was finished, they would go out into the world and decide what to do with their lives, but one question rattled around her head like a record skipping back to the same verse, caught in an eternal loop. “Where does that leave us?” It was one which echoed in her mind endlessly, only increasing in volume when she glanced at their hands mere centimetres apart on the desk in front of her. Perhaps the question she should really have been asking was “Is there even an us?”
Whatever they were, she wanted, no, needed to be more.Or
After five years of living and studying alongside Enid, Wednesday realises she cannot bear to live without her once they graduate, and forms a plan to ensure she never has to.

“Why does being alive hurt now?” The seer tugged at her damp braids. “It never did. I’ve had nightmares since I could speak, and suddenly, they scare me the way pink nail polish and glitter scare me. I think of the Hyde, and Laurel, and Weems. And most of all, I think of you.”
Or, Wednesday’s rejection of Enid’s offerings and advances have dire, century-old consequences. A curse would sound fun, if it didn’t force Wednesday to reckon with the trauma Crackstone left her with.

"Wednesday - it’s me! It’s Enid!” Enid’s breath hitched as she felt Wednesday’s hand begin to shake, and she watched in disbelief as Wednesday blinked. For a second, it almost looked like Wednesday was trying to blink away a tear.
Well, that couldn’t be right.
“You are not Enid. Enid’s dead.”
There was a beat. Then another.
“WHAT?”
