Neil Josten was dead.

Neil woke up as himself for the first time somewhere in San Francisco with hastily done stitches in his wrists and the knowledge it was now his job to keep them alive and moving. He was little more than one alter in a system of twenty-five shadowed by lies, dead-ends, and a bloody end that they all knew was drawing closer by the day, and in one single evening, all their mom’s hard work of keeping them alive was ruined. But Neil had to keep going. It was his job to keep them moving.
