Summary
The door closes quietly behind Xie Yun as he bows low, and Zhou Fei looks up from where she is reading on the bed in her chambers. She is decked in full imperial robes, donned anew for their game this evening rather than kept on since the morning court session, and she skims her gaze idly up and down the flowy robes Xie Yun is wearing.
The draping, gauzy silks in gray and blue land just on the side of casual enough to prevent the court from falling into disarray at the sight of their emperor strolling the halls dressed like the concubine he is playing at for the night. Zhou Fei has left off even the minimal headdress she wears for court, but has otherwise attired herself in the embroidered high-necked robes and fur-trimmed cloak that are her right as empress-consort. Tonight, in this room, she is his empress who commands him, not his empress who rules at his side.
