The way Will’s eyes glisten in the dark makes him look almost defenseless, as if bringing this up is taking everything he has. Mike feels a stab in his gut. Any sort of exclusion would hurt, obviously, and truth be told, Mike had never even considered talking about that sort of stuff with Will—probably for more reasons than he’s ready to admit.

He’s not suicidal—not really—but he thinks about what it would feel like to die.
Mike’s always felt he was different. He didn’t understand the other kids with all their feelings. They were off playing with their metal matchbox cars and plastic barbie dolls, while nine-year-old Mike was busy pulling a dying rabbit off the side of the road then torturing it to death.
Five years later and recently turned thirteen-year-old Mike is no better. Worse, even, ever since he hit puberty. His intense feelings of excitement for the many tortured animals he killed—the unfettered glee around his fantasies of suffering and murder—took a distinct turn to perversion.
Teenage Mike likes blood, death, and murder a little too much, so when he finds the snuff blog of a mysterious serial killer, he’s obsessed.
