Summary
“Jayce.”
Viktor’s quiet, calm voice cuts through the too-thin air of their lab. Jayce tries to force a smile onto his face before he turns to his partner. He can tell from Viktor’s expression alone that he’s failed to affect any sort of convincing mask.
“Yeah, V?” he asks, though his voice comes out too high and tight. Viktor’s brow is furrowed in concern. His eyes look Jayce up and down slowly, assessing.
“You are in distress. What do you need?” Viktor’s tone is gentle, kind even as he gets right to the point. He’s never been one to obfuscate. Jayce searches his brain for the answer to his partner’s question and comes up blank. He can’t think through the buzzing. 'Some fucking genius you are', Depression taunts. Jayce tries to swallow around the lump in his throat and summon his voice because Viktor is still looking at him for a response.
“I…” he tries, but peters off. He doesn’t know what to say.
“Should we call upon Vander?” Viktor offers, trying to help.
Jayce doesn’t have any other ideas, so he nods and mumbles a “thank you” around lips that feel numb and clumsy as his stomach churns and he feels like a filthy ingrate.

Summary
Everything that Jayce had been working on since his arrival to Piltover had been confiscated to be disposed of. Everything he had been working so hard during all those years would be thrown away. Nothing would remain of his research. No one would know how close he had been to achieve it.
