They ran until Bleu’s legs gave out, and even then they kept running, with Allie practically having to haul him over her shoulder. It took them nearly two full hours to evade the Supervision officers. She thought it would never end. The Midwest is chock full of ghost towns, fake niceties, and cornfields. Allie is so fucking sick of corn fields.
“Technically,” Bleu wheezes from his place in the dirt next to her, “they could be soy beans, you never know.”
“And why do we need so many damn soy beans and corn fields in the first place?”

"What the hell's wrong with you?" Joey asked, attempting for dispassionate. But something in him reared up at the expressions of his servers; Bridgette's pinched mouth, the uncharacteristic fidgeting from Nicole. It didn't add up. "What'd that asshole at twenty do?"
Nicole rolled her eyes, already turning to go. "It's whatever," she answered, shooting Bridgette another look. Bridgette met her gaze and nodded again, smile a little more real, and then actually ran the food Joey had before she left. God bless her; only one worth keeping in the entire damn restaurant.
"What the hell was that about," he muttered to himself, shaking his head.
Behind him, in a voice more venomous than he'd ever heard it, Ruby snarled, "What a fucking dick."

Or, the one in which people can be awful to servers, and Joey and his staff have no problem putting a stop to it.
And he can, occasionally, be less of a dick than usual. Just once, for Nicole.
