Summary
In Jackson, survival isn’t just about the infected—it’s about learning to live again.
You arrive in Jackson a shattered version of yourself—angry, haunted, and on edge. The quiet stability of the community is foreign, and though taking a job at the local school gives you a purpose, it doesn’t silence the ghosts of your past. No matter how hard you try to fit in, the townsfolk don’t seem to understand you. Frustration boils over, and when you lash out, you fear you’ve ruined any chance of belonging here.
But then there’s Joel. He keeps his distance, silent, unreadable and sometimes downright rude, but something about him feels familiar—like he might understand the weight you carry. Both used to pushing people away and burying your troubles, neither of you quite knows how to handle the weight of all these... feelings.

Summary
Escaping the horrors of her Quarantine Zone, Alexandra makes it to Jackson – a feat that nearly costs her her life. As she becomes enmeshed in the community, Alex feels her life spread out before her in a way that she hasn’t experienced since Outbreak Day. Suddenly, she can attain more than mere survival. Picking up an old craft from her past brings her in close contact with the most standoffish man in Jackson, another craftsperson, Joel Miller. In the midst of honing her craft, building relationships, and detangling her own strange feelings for the gruff older man, she sinks into the bubble of safety and warmth that Jackson offers. When the cruel reality of the post-outbreak world encroaches suddenly and violently on that peace, Alex’s very life lies in Joel’s hands, whether he likes it or not. From this blooms a twisted romance, one borne of the desire to care for and be cared for, to protect and be protected.
Or, love and desire, twisted by complexes and trauma, in the aftermath of the apocalypse.
