Summary
“You ain’t supposed to be doing that.” Nick nods at the smoke in Steve’s hand. “So what’ch you doing with that?” He gazes pointedly at Steve’s pocket.
“It’s not mine,” Steve rasps.
Nick raises his brows.
“I know, I know,” Steve says before Nick has a chance to open his mouth again. “It’s just, my buddy just came home, and—”
“He’s on the China white, and you're gonna patch him up?” Nick finishes with a snicker.
“Well, yeah,” Steve says lamely. “It’s not funny.”
“Boy…” Nick shakes his head. “The dope ain’t his problem. That’s him trying to fix it. You take that away, the demon’s still gonna be there.”
“Yeah…” Steve sighs. “But he’s still in there too.” He coughs again and taps out the cigarette.

He isn’t hungry. He doesn’t want to open his mouth, either. His stomach’s in knots. Everything in this godforsaken country smells like sweat and shit, even the food. Even the food they shipped in specially, as if the government needed a federal holiday to give the troops abroad a sharp kick in the ass and call it thankfulness.
_____
Or, Bucky has a problem with Thanksgiving, even after he comes home from the war.

Summary
Steve knows there were drugs in ‘Nam. Probably girls. A lot of laying around waiting for shit to happen.
It’s not really Bucky’s fault, per se. Steve can’t blame him for coming home with addictions that are far above his ability to break. Steve just wishes he wasn’t gone so much. Not that he’d let him shoot up in the house, but he hates the anxiety of not knowing where Bucky is, but also knowing that he isn’t meant to go look for him.
