But what I'm learning now is that starting over can be a very good thing-”
Jacqueline doesn't get to finish what she's saying, because in the moment between one thought and the next, Jane Sloan is leaning in and kissing her.
Jane is all youthful vigor and looking-before-you-leap normally, and that’s likely what this is, but god, her mouth is soft and a bit tacky with fading lipstick and the sour sting of a bottle of vodka, and Jacqueline wants that.
God, she wants that fire.
God, she wants the energy of someone willing to burn the candle at both ends, because maybe if there’s a fire going, you’ll have a big enough spark for a firework bright enough to light up the entire sky.
(As Jacqueline's life crumbles around her, Jane Sloan shows up to give her a copy of the magazine that was to be her magnum opus- and perhaps a chance at a restart in more than one way.)

“Our little posh princeling isn’t getting away this easily,” Billy says, taking her hand in his, something stubborn in the squeeze of his hand around hers.
Bea knows that it’s impossible to break into a fucking palace.
But they’ve already done six impossible things this week. Solved a dozen impossible, supernatural crimes.
It is hard not to be compelled by the faith in Billy’s voice. The stubborn, sharp edge that is willing to bash through anything that it has to, if it means that the people he loves are safe.
By the word "our."
But then Billy swallows, uncertainty entering his expression for the first time. “But we don't know if he'd be willing to trade a crown for us,” he says, something raw in his voice.
“He already traded his freedom for you,” Bea points out, “It'll take some work to get him out-” Some is definitely an understatement, she knows that, but she has to believe that there is a chance, because she knows that hope is a terrible, rough-edged creature, but it is still a living one that can become theirs. “But what's one more case?” Bea asks, and there is more life in her voice than she has felt in ages.
And Billy grins, something sharp as shrapnel in his smile.

Maybe Riley has his stars. Maybe he’s always had too much faith in Benjamin Franklin Gates and Abigail Chase. Maybe he’s always yearned too hard and too recklessly for his own good.
And maybe when he looks at them, he knows he’s seeing a future that can’t exist. Maybe he’s dreaming of a version of events where when they find Cíbola and there’s the rush of adrenaline in their veins and Abigail loops her arms around his neck and pulls him in for a deep, searing kiss that tastes better than the discovery of gold could ever feel. Where Ben pulls them both down into the bed and Riley finally gets the chance to worship them both and maybe, in his wildest fantasies, they return the favor to Riley.
Riley knows rationally it could never happen, and yet-

Summary
There is something to be said for the fact that when you’re a nerd growing up with few acquaintances and even fewer friends, you find yourself falling for fairytales. That is the way of lonely children since the history of man began, isn’t it? You fall for the version of reality where the lonely child living in the tower, the child separated out from the rest of society, gets to be rescued.
And then, when you grow up, you have that naivety shattered. You have that hope thrown against the ground and destroyed because the world can’t hold itself up to the version of life that you made up in your head, a world in which the girl doesn’t have to confront her fear of the outside world because it comes to her.
Marsha didn’t grow up reading fairytales. She grew up reading comic books.
But, as she’d come to learn, that was much the same thing, at the end of the day.
She grew up idolizing Team Zenith. Falling for the image of Zoom and Concussion before he lashed out and betrayed everyone and killed his entire team.
And for so long, it was that faith that got her through it all.
