Summary
Hermione starts feeling sick again at the memory, feelings she didn’t care to examine threatening to overwhelm her, and she shoves them back down and out of her head with a vigorous shake. If Pansy doesn’t care, Hermione doesn’t either. She was right, this is a wonderful opportunity, once-in-a-lifetime, and to decline would have been stupid. And yet that is exactly what she would have done, in a heartbeat, if only Pansy had said the word. There are other ways to further her career, ways that would allow her to keep living here and wouldn’t disadvantage her in the long-run, and Hermione had as good as decided on them when Pansy told her to leave.

Cho looks lost, a lone figure on the horizon, hugging herself and standing tall against the wind.

Usually that specification would have made her refuse; going Salazar-knows-where and not taking her wand? It’s beyond stupid. But Ginny was too excited to tell her any of that, too exuberant for Pansy to protest. And ultimately, Pansy does trust her more than she should, implicitly and with her very life. She didn’t expect much from their ‘Library-Date’ but is it really too much to ask that her girlfriend at least looks at her ever once in a while?
“That’s great, love.” Enough is enough, Pansy has gritted her teeth long enough and told herself that education is important, that Hermione enjoys studying and that it wouldn’t be fair to ask her to give it up. But this is a new low. Pansy is used to cancelled dates, accepted that Hermione doesn’t feel comfortable telling anyone and that she can’t kiss her girlfriend in public, but this was supposed to make up for it, supposed to be her time.
