Logan sits alone in the bar for hours. There’s no last call in a place like this with a steady trickle of men hauling their miserable asses from cheap labour to cheaper bunks. He’s never understood Jimmy’s obsession with playing a role. Maybe one day he’ll let Logan try to explain it to him.
When Logan finally leaves, the moon hangs low. He heads deeper into the forest instead of back toward the scattered bunkhouses. Victor silently dogs his steps save for deliberate footfalls that rustle the undergrowth here, snap a twig there. Logan marches ahead like he doesn’t hear, like he isn’t leading Victor on.
Familiar need tightens Victor’s guts. It’s a straight fifty-fifty Logan will go easy when he’s in a mood.
