“Dave? You’re being weird. Are you good?”
What would make him think he wasn’t? He was just...just... What was he doing? He was laying in bed waiting on Karkat and… staring at the ceiling feeling, off.
“Yeah, yeah I’m good,” he responded.“Okay yeah that’s bullshit Strider,” Karkat said walking to the door frame entering the bedroom, toothbrush hanging out of his mouth, “ How many years have I known you? You’re using your ‘something is very much clearly wrong but I don’t want to come out and say it but god do I want someone to pick up on my near imperceivable calls for help’ voice.”
“Is that your evaluation of my emotional state or your new screen play?” Dave retorted.
“Both. Now move over,”

Summary
The noodles were found and the fire was turned up. Dave leaned against the counter waiting for the pot to come to a boil. His eyes slowly got lost in the churning water and his mind drifted away into the silence of the kitchen. It was so quiet, it made him feel like he had to stay silent too. Like at his apartment sneaking around trying to avoid running into his brother in a house he knew was empty.

“Hey so did you decide on what you wanted to make-” Karkat’s eyes met with Dave’s, then glanced down at his hand hanging inches from a pot of boiling water, “Dave what are you doing?”

In which Dave falls into old habits, Karkat is scared, and Dave finds out just how much you can not care about yourself before your boyfriend snaps.

He started running and called his name.
The object of his search did not come into view, so his calls became louder. His legs cried in pain and failed to carry him faster.
'Don't worry. I'm coming. I'll help you, just let me find you.'
Sat with his head down in a chair on a patch of grass, he saw him: Karkat. He could tell from a distance he was shaking hard.
Karkat finally looked up at him.

Summary
Dave really hated nightmares. Honestly he wasn’t a big fan of dreams. Maybe because he never could lucid dream. He hates how you can almost feel that you're dreaming, but can never make the magical jump and become aware. You lose all control of yourself and your emotions and are made to do whatever the story your brain made demanded of you.
He has been spared most dreams for a long time. 9/10 times he slept on their meteor journey he ended up in a dream bubble. The environment was not easy to control, but at least he could tell that he was not in reality and was in control of himself. He had forgotten how bad normal dreaming could be. Or how deceptive.
