AU: Trevelyan and Dorian meet at a wedding in Tevinter when they are preteens and the two become fast friends. This is until, they fight at Trevelyan's brother's wedding, where Matthieu’s ‘fiery’ outburst reveals his magical proclivities to the Thedosian nobility. Trevelyan is sent away to the Circle at Ostwick and Dorian is unable to reach the boy who blames him for his ‘imprisonment.’ Years later, after the Conclave when Trevelyan is with the Inquisition, the pair reunites in the Redcliffe Chantry and Maker help them.

“Well, why were you correcting my form?” Matthieu retorts, feeling heat racing to his fingertips. He knows this is childish, but it’s not as if he’s going to back down. Dorian is stirred awake by a cry that echoes throughout his small shared tent. He immediately knows who the cry belongs to as he sees the faint writhing of the bedroll beside him. He quickly lights their lantern, which shines it on the Inquisitor who is tossing and turning in his disturbed state.
In which, Dorian tries to help the Inquisitor through a nightmare only to find out a secret he wishes he hadn't.

Dorian could have his pick of anyone at that party for the night and it would be well earned and completely expected, but he’s here with the worst option in the Chateau. Why? He doesn’t care in that way, he couldn’t so he must just be trying to be a good friend. But then again, good friends don’t wake up tangled in one another’s arms after balls. The Altus wanted other men last night, he made that abundantly clear to Matthieu last night. Why is he here?
In which, after a ball in preparation for Halamshiral, the Inquisitor confusedly wakes up in a certain Tevinter's arms.

The Free Marcher’s head rests in the Tevinter’s lap, bruised and bloody, as Dorian works to clean it with an embroidered handkerchief and lukewarm water. Dorian grumbles, wondering why he puts up with the reckless man before him who thought it apt to throw himself in front of multiple Red Templars to defend him. Again.
In which, Dorian has to help bandage the Inquisitor and is very distracted by said man.

Summary
“‘My Beloved, Matthieu,’” Matthieu reads aloud.
“Matthieu Sebastian. Stop,” Dorian warns as he matches up to his partner and tries to grab at the in-progress letter he had been holding.
“I thought I’m ‘Your Beloved, Matthieu,’” Matthieu remarks with amusement as he wards Dorian off with one arm. He continues reading, “‘Missing you by my side and sleeping in a tent of all things is never something I dared imagine, but these days I wish I never knew the feeling at all. Yearning for you in wanton wanting is all the more unbearable now opposed to when I knew nothing of your touch. I only wish you were at my side again—”
As Matthieu actually begins to process the words of the unsent letter aloud, he stops warding his partner off altogether. He doesn’t want this.
In which, the Inquisitor realizes that the Altus does in fact care for him and does not know how to process this information.

Summary
Matthieu’s eyelids flutter open as sunlight pours through the stained glass windows of his quarters. The strong scent of Antivan coffee courses him awake, as he sits up in bed, trying to find the source. Out of the corner of his eye, he catches a certain very charming Altus draped across his settee with papers and quill in hand. The Free Marcher carefully watches him from the bed, taking in the little motions like how Dorian taps the tip of the quill to his lips while he thinks or how the pleased look on his face as he sips the blend.
In which, the Altus helps the Inquisitor with bureaucratic nonsense.

Summary
Dorian allows the magic in his hand to fizzle as Matthieu takes his hand again, pulling the Altus into a nearby laneway against a wall. There, he is pulled against the former Inquisitor's chest, breathing heavily. Matthieu runs a hand through his hair, allowing his hood to fall, “Appreciate the warm welcome, Magister Pavus.”
In which, the Inquisitor visits the newly made Magister after a Lucerni meeting and are thoroughly pleased to see one another. They alleyway is perhaps not.
