Summary
After he’s splashed water on his fake and dragged the comb through his mane, breaking some of the product stiffness (and breaking a few teeth from yet another comb), Vince turns to untie the belt on his kimono, and Howard averts his eyes to the floor.
Nothing he hasn’t seen before, of course, but it never feels right to look on these nights. He waits until he hears the slip of water lapping at the rim of the tub, followed by Vince’s tell-tale sigh when the water climbs his chest. Then, Howard slips off the toilet and turns, sitting on the bathmat with his back pressed to the cold porcelain edge of their clawfoot tub.

Summary
It’s a tight squeeze for four people, but it’s fine. Howard can’t get any closer to the wall than he already is, and all three of his seatmates are slim enough so as not to matter. Besides, they won’t be here long at all. It’ll be off into the night for Vince and the others soon.
That’s why it’s so mystifying when Vince picks himself up and squirms right into Howard’s lap.

Summary
If Howard doesn’t want to be teased, he shouldn’t make it so much fun. Vince can’t resist digging at him a bit more, so he raises one foot into the air and wiggles his toes. “Since you’re not doin’ anything better, you can put down that book and give us a foot rub.”
He’s expecting to draw a disgusted look, prepared to dodge a pencil or the book in question being lobbed at his head. So, he has no idea what to do when Howard tucks the paperback into the windowsill and gets up.
Even when he’s crossed the gulf of a few feet between their beds, Vince remains silent. It can’t really be happening, and therefore, it can’t be worth commenting on. Not until Howard drops to his knees beside the bed.
