“B-Because, I…” stumbles Teh, trying to find his way to the truth but still stumbling in the depth of Oh-Aew’s faithful eyes. “I’m an Alpha, and you...” he admits then, cheeks suddenly burning in shame, but his mate just keeps on staring at him like Teh has grown a second head, extinguishing the last of the courage that the Alpha had left.
Then, something seems to click inside the Beta’s head, lacing his perplexed expression with threads of suspicion. The look makes Teh squirm uncomfortably on the sand, while a part of him is begging to just get up and spare himself of whatever humiliation is about to come, but Teh knows that he would rather cut off his own legs than running away from his mate ever again.
“...Teh.” calls out Oh-Aew after a long pause, as the frown on his face gets deeper and deeper. “You…” he tries to say next, but then he stops to gather his words again, looking torn but also somewhat exasperated. “What do you know about Betas?”
