When Esca was captured, she disguised herself as a boy. Two years later she is saved by Marcus and becomes his slave, but does not give up her masquerade. The truth comes out over the wall, when they are on their quest to find the Eagle. After returning the Eagle to Rome they live on a horse farm in Britain and try to work things out; trust is hard when betrayal runs so deep.
Somewhere along the way they fall in love.
