Summary
“Everything okay?” Ace asked, coming up around Deuce’s side and startling him out of his distracted staring at the stupid couch. He pulled his hand away from the cushions and straightened up, speaking before he could stop himself.
“I don’t think it’s a sleeper like the old one,” he said, catching the inside of his cheek between his briefly in a worrying gesture as Ace tilted his head.
“That’s okay, I can sleep on it as is,” he said, though Deuce caught the way he rolled his shoulders briefly.
“We were both shifting around on the dumb thing all night, I doubt it’s gonna be any more comfortable to actually sleep on,” Deuce commented. He should just check if it pulls out into a bed, problem solved in a minute or two tops, but instead… “My bed is big enough. For the both of us, I mean. If you don’t mind sharing, that is.”

"Good swing. You box or something?"
"No," Deuce replied slowly, distantly wondering just what the hell was going on and why no one was angrier about any of this.
"Damn. Solid connection. Careful with your wrist next time."
Was he getting constructive criticism from the guy he'd punched??

Summary
"Oh, you must be Deuce!" she exclaimed, her smile stretching her freckled cheeks just a little bit more, and suddenly he knew exactly who she was, which meant he had an idea just who the large man beside her was, too. Anxiety settled heavily over him as his polite smile wavered, and he suddenly wished Ace would appear on the stairs behind them so Deuce wouldn't have to deal with this alone, because this definitely was not part of the plan.
"You're Ace's parents," he said, just barely keeping a defeated tone from his voice, and Portgas D. Rouge nodded, a knowing glint in her amused dark eyes.
"Sure are. But he told you we were coming, right?" she asked.

Summary
“It’s still the 31st?” he asked, because he was meant to pick up Deuce himself on the morning of the 1st, and yet Deuce was in his room and telling him he wasn’t still asleep.
“Yep. Happy New Year’s Eve,” Deuce replied, tightening his hold over Ace’s waist before snorting in amusement. “Your dad made plenty of comments despairing that I was his birthday gift.”
“That fucker,” Ace groaned, before squirming and rolling over enough to land mostly on top of Deuce, grinning down at him and peppering his face with quick kisses. "You're seriously actually here?"
"I'm here," Deuce replied, beaming up at him, and Ace took a second to straighten his glasses for him before kissing him all over again. "Happy early birthday, I'm your surprise."

Deuce isn't usually the jittery type, but hosting dinner for Ace's brothers to share the news of their engagement seems like a good enough reason. Ace just needs to help him relax real quick first.

Summary
"I'm just taking a look," Ace said, waving a dismissive hand, flashing a reassuring grin over his shoulder.
Deuce wasn't particularly reassured. That grin had prefaced all sorts of misadventures and incidents and injuries over the time they'd known each other, at least for Deuce to witness the aftermath of, though he'd been dragged into a fair few as well. He could just see an emergency room visit for animal bites or scratches in their future.

Summary
"Still wanna get up?" he asked, a breathless sort of rasp into Deuce's ear, and he shivered at the sound of it as Ace's hand slid just a little further forward around his hip, fingertips brushing under his shirt to the skin just above his hip bone.
“Not particularly,” Deuce responded softly, muscles tensed to keep himself up off the mattress enough for Ace’s hand to slide under the waistband of his pajama pants, dragging teasingly over increasingly sensitive skin.
