Andrew expected Matt to say something along the lines of “I’m not defending him” or “it doesn’t matter” to deescalate the situation, get practice back on track. But he didn’t. Andrew almost thought he heard him wrong.
“Maybe when you get as good as he is, you can stand around too, but until then, we still have to practice, alright?”

Summary
Had Andrew Minyard really just protected her out of his own volition? The guy had started to grow on her after Neil kept lecturing them about calling him a monster. It seemed so simple to see him as part of the family after that, but even still, Allison never expected anything like this to happen.
She looked to her girlfriend to make sure they’d both just witnessed the same thing. Renee wore a knowing smile, like this was the least surprising thing of all.
