Summary
When Buck looks up at Eddie with a playful gleam in his eyes, he's not expecting to see a redness that isn't just a reflection of the siren lights. Eddie pours hydrogen peroxide over Buck's gash just as the latter says, "Ooh, Diaz, did I make you blush?"
"For that, you're getting stitches."
"Hey, hey- no- what about butterfly bandages, yeah? Please?"

Summary
Eddie twists to see the bruises better in the mirror, hands coming down to frame them as if they were a piece of art. He tugs his turnout gear past his waist and over his hipbone, trying to see how far it extends. The bruising ends abruptly at the top of his hip. Already, the edges are turning a sickly yellow, unflattering against the tan skin of his torso. It looks like a sunset, but maybe more like the type you’d see in a zombie apocalypse.
The door creaks open and he turns with a start, exhaling when he sees Buck. “Oh, it’s you.”
“Who were you expecting?” Buck hazards, but his gaze has already turned to the marred mess of Eddie’s side. “Hen, I hope?”

Summary
“Do you not like sleeping with me, Diaz?” Buck hazards, taking a swig of his nearly-empty bottle.
Chim parts his lips like he’s going to make a comment- but Hen hands him a chip instead to occupy his mouth.
“If you would stop waking me up in the middle of the night, I might like it more,” Eddie sighs, half-genuine in his annoyance. “Buck kicks like a racehorse.”

Summary
Buck nods, then takes a long sip of his drink. It’s ice cold and soothes the burn in his stomach, but doesn’t stop the icy rage that is still flowing through his bones. He wants to sock Eddie in the face- he wouldn’t, ever, in a million years- but he wants to see if Eddie is capable of feeling anything, anymore. Maybe he would hit Buck back, and then again, and again, and again, until all his anger is gone and they can be something other than this ever again.
No fists fly. Buck nods, unconvincingly. “Thanks.”
“I’ve got your back,” Eddie mutters. Is it sour in his mouth? Buck feels it in the back of his throat even though he hasn’t said those words in as long as he can think.
“Don’t-,” Buck exclaims. “Don’t you dare.”

Summary
Buck’s foot is still held in a hand, like a tether, so he uses his other leg to help clear debris and then there’s a person standing over him, and it’s Eddie, it’s always Eddie. He is sooty and the only clean spot on his skin is where beads of sweat have cut through the soot like Moses in the Red Sea, but he is Eddie, and he grins wide and bold when he reaches down to grab Buck’s hand.
“Skipping out on work again?” Eddie quips.
Buck grabs back with a matching grin, and then screams when Eddie pulls, but he is already up. Off-balance, he surges forward and stumbles right into Eddie. His shoulder throbs when it makes contact with Eddie’s chest, but his other arm, that Eddie had just grabbed, is dangling useless and on fire by his side. Not literally on fire, right?
