For what it’s worth, Kiyoomi did try.
He tried to talk, to act like it didn’t faze him. That he knew he had no right to get bothered by Akaashi's call because he and Bokuto aren’t dating. They’re not, despite Bokuto spending every night at Kiyoomi’s place. They’re not despite Bokuto telling him that he wants something more. That it's Kiyoomi he wants that something more with. And Kiyoomi wants it too. He does. He can count on one hand the things he wants the same way he wants Bokuto and still have five fingers to spare, but he's scared.
He's scared because he's not used to this kind of wanting. He's scared because it all seems too dreamlike to be real. He's scared because Bokuto carries that stupid picture of him and Akaashi to every away game they have.

Summary
Koutarou realises, five minutes after he managed to board the train, that he might have underestimated Osaka’s rush hour.
The crowd presses into him, but he holds his ground, shuffling around until he’s facing the glass door. He catches glimpses of the life that people lead; it’s easy to imagine the cicadas chirping as the neighbourhood kids race amongst themselves to buy shaved ice and popsicles. Next to him, salarymen talk on their phones, students excitedly chat about their classes being over, couples flirt; he hears complaints, commiserations, confessions. People make date plans, schedule meetings, organise a group trip; they continue with the mundanity, focusing on their life, entrenched in the routine of the evening commute.
Too entrenched, if he’s being honest.
