Summary
At the end of everything, Mira had been alone. The man she'd given her heart to wasn't who he'd pretended to be: she'd left him to rot in Val Royeaux's dungeons, too ashamed of her naivety to face him, and too in love with him to allow him the death he felt he deserved. The man she'd respected most—her mentor, her confidant, her friend—had worn a false name, too, and left her to climb, body and heart broken, through the Eluvian and into her suddenly empty future.
At the beginning of everything—again—Mira finds herself kneeling on a cold stone floor in the dark, one hand glowing with sickening green light and wrists shackled. With every choice still ahead of her to make, and certain in the knowledge of where it had all gone wrong before, this time, she knows exactly what to do to hold on to what really matters in the end—at least for as long as she can hold onto her memories.
Honesty is as important as second chances—for her, for the false warden, and even for the Dread Wolf. What could be changed if no one's secrets were truly their own?

Summary
Mira pushed up onto her toes to meet him, hooking a hand around the back of Thom’s neck and into his hair as he pressed her to the wall and flicked his tongue against her bottom lip. As he deepened the kiss, she tasted him more fully, the flavor he left on her lips akin to the summer wind blowing through a grassy, sunlit meadow on a clear day. At the sound of approaching footsteps, she pulled back from him with a soft giggle and found that her hand had come away from his hair with a thin, broken stalk stuck between her fingers.
She held it out to him, spinning it a bit as she glanced up from beneath her lashes. “You have straw in your hair.”
He took it from her and tossed it into the air behind him, shaking his head. “It’s hay, not straw.”
“Alright. You have hay in your hair.”
“Aye.” He ducked his head to nip at her earlobe. “Fancy getting some in yours?”

Summary
When she looked at him like that—with her cheeks flushed and her glassy eyes half-lidded, entirely focused on his lips as she tipped her face up for a kiss—he felt as if they were the only two people in the world, let alone in the room.
He reminded himself that they weren’t—that all of the ways he wanted to greet her after a long day spent apart were better suited for the bedroom, or at least a more private space than the middle of a packed tavern. Regardless, a crowd of onlookers wasn’t about to keep him from kissing her properly. Setting down his glass, Thom leaned in and pulled her close.
