On that same dark, October night, Voldemort was vanquished by the Boy Who Lived.
And after that same dark, October night, the future would change, for better or for worse.

If you asked Harry James Potter if he had any regrets in his life he'd like to fix, he'd say "hell the f*ck no".
After a long and fulfilling life, one much longer than his father's, he couldn't say that he didn't have regrets but he'd be damned if he had to relive his younger years. Though, he might reconsider if dying meant finding ol'Tom waiting for him to spend the rest of eternity together.
On his death bed, he chuckled.
'Yeah, if I had to relive it…' Harry thought to himself, forcing himself to stop laboring for every breath.
'At the very least, I'd try to do everything in style.'
And when he saw the light at the end of the tunnel, appearing to be a door opening to the afterlife, he eagerly watched it open, only to be met with Aunt Petunia's horsey face.

Fate hated Draco Malfoy.
First of all, he learned that he was, in fact, a character in a story book. A story book that he, as another Draco without magic, had hated with all of his heart for one reason...
...him.
And because of that, he hated the whole Harry Potter series that had birthed 'Draco Malfoy', so what else could he do but finish the plot as quick as possible and try to leave?
However, Fate hated Draco Malfoy.
So, second of all, he ended up getting together with the character he hated almost as much as himself.
And all because he never tried to Obliviate himself.
