"Sometimes during the last Sith-Jedi war, the cost of individual kyber harvestment became atrocious.
The Order, minding their goal to eradicate the Sith, authorised an attempt at more large-scale kyber mining. It was, ultimately, proven to be both fruitless and idiotic – they did not have the force to safeguard their mining ships, nor the manpower to mine such a complex material effectively. Their kyber freighters were practically sitting ducks, and attempts to interrupt the route from the oppositions only led to more bloodshed. The brief period when the operation was live quickly made its way to become one of the bloodiest parts of the war. It took the old Order hundreds of attacks and a dozen lost freighters to call off the attempt altogether.
It did not, in the end, give the Jedi Order any more kyber to use. But it did give them eighty-six cargo freighters to figure out what to do with."
