Summary
The disappearances of his father started two weeks after Fred had received his N.E.W.T. s scores. At first, Fred thought his father was having a particularly bad phase (again) and just needed a bit of fresh air, some time away to gather his bearings and breathe out all the 'bad' that seemed perpetually stuck somewhere in his body.
But his dad kept on disappearing more regularly, and his hour-long trips morphed into days and, in the spring Fred turned twenty, into a week. He sometimes returned drunk, sometimes sober, but always unable to look anyone in the eyes, staying stubbornly silent to any questions as to where he had disappeared to or why he hadn't answered any of their messages.
He would always come back in the end and Fred would grind his teeth in frustration when his father started to cook up a feast and everybody pretended everything was perfectly fine. They never talked about any of it.
Fred was not willing to play that game tonight.

Summary
The colours on her canvas shifted, making space for the red of George's hair, the brown of his eyes, the blue and yellow of his Weasley jumper. It felt to Angelina like her eyes hadn't properly looked at him in too long a time, for she didn't remember him being so colourful.
It made something inside her stomach twist and ache.

Summary
So this is me trying, Fred.
I want you to wait for me because you've bloody well got the time. I want you to find people who will look after you, who'll make sure you are in a good shape for the day I catch up with you. Maybe Harry's parents are there to keep you company. Ange's dad. Or Lupin and Sirius and Tonks. There are quite a lot of people who can keep you company.
So, for once in your … life? I want you to do as you're told. Wreak havoc on King's Cross with Lupin and Sirius. Set Dumbledore's beard on fire. Cook stuff with Dobby. Hug Harry's mum. Pass the time until I am free to join you.
Because I want to join you on my own terms. Just as you've got people around you, I've got some around me, too. Quite a lot of them, actually.
