Summary
“It’s not—I’m not looking for skin mags.”
“But you’re not, not looking for them either?”
“It’s an actual book. I’ve lost it, and there’s no copy at the library.”
“What kind of book?”
“I can’t really describe it. Maybe informational? I found this book in my dad’s office when I was like, thirteen.” Billy just gestures for him to continue. Harrington looks heavenward. “It helped me out a lot with my first few times with a chick. Talk about a learning curve.”
Billy actually startles a laugh at the joke, and Harrington smiles. It gives Billy pause, and he clears his throat, “a fucking manual. That’s what you’re looking for? You haven’t learned yet?”
“I know how to fuck!” He hisses lowly, and Billy hums. “I just don’t explain it well.”

Summary
“Neil always knew. That’s why he—” she swallows thickly. “There’s no excuses as to why he treated you the way he did. But I know the things he said about you when you weren’t around. He never admitted the truth in so many words, but his betrayal was always there. I also knew, looking at Sam everyday when I looked at your face, why Neil was always so angry with you and your mother. I was angry with the both of you too.”

Summary
Billy can admit that he has a conflated understanding of the same sex. But it’s not like he’s ever been proven wrong. They all have the capability of being or turning into a man like his father. The kind of man who holds his power over others. Violent. Mean. Cruel. One who can’t show any form of vulnerability.
If you’re a man who doesn’t fit that mold…you’re not really a man.
That’s what his father has tried to beat into him since Billy first showed signs that he wasn’t anything like him.
Ever since then, it’s been a lesson in respect and responsibility. The respect in obeying his father’s vision. The responsibility to follow through with it.
The thing is, Billy really tries to.
It makes the self-loathing so much worse, but there’s that part of him that just wants to please his old man; that wants his acceptance. Billy still holds out hope that he can make the man proud through emulation. Maybe the fists will stop coming then. Maybe Neil will look at Billy with as much pride and respect as he can muster.

Summary
Billy sighs, “I’m up to my eyeballs with three midterm essays, Holloway. I really don’t have time to fix it.”
She shrugs, “well, Robin knows a guy. Her best friend works for an HVAC company. Maybe I can get a discount. Think you can fork up the cash? I’ll split it with you.”
“Do they do free estimates?”
“I’ll call Robin and ask.”

Summary
Steve has a necklace that doesn’t belong to him.
It was passed off by fingers that shook so bad they couldn’t keep a grip on it. The garish lights of emergency vehicles flashing, reflected the blood and black goo dripping down the gold piece, making the necklace too slippery in the smaller hand that tried so desperately to hold onto it…

Summary
“Dance with me.”
The words register at the same time as the low hum of an unfamiliar voice starts singing from the stereo. Both bring Billy back to reality. He’d been lost in his head. His thoughts had actually been focused on the person beside him. It’s funny that anyone has the ability to take up so much of a person’s headspace, even when they’re sitting right next to them.
Funny…and maybe a tad obsessive.
Like Billy really gives a shit.
