“You’re taking this rather calmly.”
Jason snorts, “We first met jumping through interdimensional rifts. This is par for course.”
“Right, of course.” Kyle huffs and actually tries to help them move forward. “What were you even doing in the middle of nowhere.”
“Wishing on stars,” he replies deadpan.
Kyle squints at him, the scent of ozone and sweat unavoidable with him so close. He should dislike it more than he does. “I could never tell when you were being serious.”

“You know,” Kyle starts. “You’re real fucking annoying.”
“And yet you’re still here.” Jason snuffs his cigarette on the sill even if he’d cuss Kyle out for doing the same and leans forwards, using that same hand to push back Kyle’s hair dragging a nicotine scent that’ll linger. “What does that say about you?”
A masochist, his brain supplies and it’s the same stupid brain that has him tugging Jason closer by the nape of his neck into a biting kiss.

He could tell even then that Jason hated being exposed. Each sweet word accidentally spilling out would be humbled by a bite of something mean. Rather be covered head to toe than risk the cold.
But that was always their problem, wasn’t it? Jason could never stand being exposed, not even in the radiator warmth of their bedroom. And Kyle? Kyle thought love meant knowing and loving every layer.
