There was so much blood and I got so dizzy and when they took him from me, I didn't have anything holding me on my feet anymore. No reason to stay upright. I remember feeling my stomach in my throat and seeing stars and, you know what, Sammy?"
Sam looks at him, expression asking the question his mouth won't form. He's shaking slightly and Bucky tightens his grip on his shoulders.
"All I could think about was how you were supposed to be coming home any day now and I wasn't gonna be home to make dinner for you," Bucky finishes, and his throat tightens. He blinks back tears, because it's so much more than that. He had been in a near panic when he felt his strength leave him at that store. He thought he'd never open his eyes again, and all he could think about was Sam.
