The life and times of Clint Barton, code name 'Marksman', and Phil "Kingfisher" Coulson. The deadliest pair in SHIELD (barring Natasha because she doesn't need to be in a pair to be very deadly) have worked together for years. Eight years to be exact, if you don't count the two they ran into each other and worked together before Clint signed on with SHIELD to be a Specialist. They have a purely professional dynamic—or as professional as Clint can get while flirting—and will keep it that way.

Or, at least, until a small move of letting Clint Barton find out that Coulson can participate in SHIELD-brand office humor. Then the gates have been released and everything can and will change between them.

This is their life, as crazy, hectic, cliched and anything else it could be. At least you're not the one living it.

Notes:

In which we start slightly AU eight years before the Avengers movie and let writing muses and personal headcanons decide where to go.

All stories in this series started as role-plays on tumblr and have been adapted into fic. Both characters were started without any comic knowledge at all and have slowly developed into what they are. The difference in characters to canon is mainly back story and the resulting character development of their decisions.

A few notes to personal adaptations: Clint is dyslexic to the point of illiteracy on his bad days, Phil used to be a field agent and sniper (his code name infamous and no longer connected to him), Clint killed his father and accidentally his mother and Barney was a still born, Phil's code name has a completely different mindset and almost personality linked to it, and they both get off on killing the bad guys.
