Summary
The thing that looked-like-Sean-but-wasn’t went for Jean first. That was its first mistake. Its second mistake was letting Marion get close enough to slit its throat with the unpowered EONS phase knife.
Or, Jean and Marion have started taking shifts to keep an eye on Sean as he recovers. They're alive, the three of them. For now. But Marion dozes during his shift. And he dreams.

Summary
A bargain with a landlord who owed him a favor, a promise to pay twice that month’s rent once he had the means, another gun—running away was almost easy.
Or, a sequel to "to be loved means to be consumed," in which the doppelgänger is dead and Sean survives the attack at Duncan's, though he still thinks Marion and Jinnah would be better off without him. Once he's finally alone, however, his thoughts drift back to them and what they could be up to now that he's out of the way.
The wanting hurts, but not as much as staying did.
