Summary
This is it for him. This is forever. He wants this forever. He wants Evan and their dog Apollo, lazy Sundays, and homemade breakfast burritos. He wants Evan to come home from a run all sweaty and gross, and immediately drop on top of him, instead of taking a shower. After every hard shift, he wants to make Evan that lavender tea he loves and rub his feet while Evan rants about everything that went wrong. He wants to play fetch with Apollo in their backyard as Evan reads a book about whatever his latest hyperfixation is. He wants the random fun facts. He wants. He wants so bad. He wants this for the rest of his life. He has to have this for the rest of his life. He doesn’t know what he would do without Evan.
He’s almost embarrassed at how long he’s had the ring. It should be expected, he thinks. It should be expected that he’s thinking of committing to him this early in their relationship. In the last year, Evan has managed to worm himself into his very heart and soul, and Tommy longs for nothing more than to bundle him up and nestle him close to his heart, right under his rib cages. He lives and breathes Evan Buckley.

“That’s the thing though,” Evan said, looking at him all soft and as if Tommy had hung the moon. “About Orpheus and Eurydice. He was never going to make it. He loved her. Hades himself wouldn’t have even made it. I wouldn’t have made it either if I were with you.”
Tommy had frowned at Evan, the thought was not pleasant.
“So you would doom us to an eternity of hell?”
“It’s not like that,” Evan said, taking his hand, with a light chuckle. “It’s like you’re in the wrong part of town, the scary, unsafe part, and you’re behind me. I’m checking behind me to see if you’re okay if you’re safe. Even if I know you can take care of yourself. I don’t want to lose you. You’re everything.”
And suddenly, losing the ability to breathe, Tommy understood what this was. This was love.
