Summary
The air was dense, thick with a biting grit that clung to every surface.
Hope was a luxury no one could afford—not here, not anymore.
Jason’s mask pressed hard against his face, the rubber straps digging into his skin, leaving faint, red impressions that would fade by nightfall, if night ever really fell. Goggles fogged with each shallow exhale, the rhythm of his breath sharp and stifled beneath the weight of unyielding filters. He could feel the dust—it didn’t just settle on the cracked concrete, it swallowed everything, muffled even the faintest of sounds. The only noise was his breathing, too close, too steady, a reminder that the mask was the only thing between him and a gasping end.
His gloved fingers flexed around the pistol grip, the cool steel foreign in his hand. Once, it had felt solid, a reassuring weight that promised survival. Now, it was just another object in a world where everything, even himself, seemed to be losing its substance.
And in this world, killing was no longer a cruelty- it had become an act of mercy.
