As soon as they are allowed to leave, the drivers all disperse to their various pack rooms for a little bit of down time at the end of the Bahrain filming day before testing starts up in the morning.
Max is followed by more rookies than he was expecting.
Liam makes sense, even if he’s done half a season and doesn’t technically qualify as a rookie anymore. Isack also makes sense, as he’s part of the Red Bull Family. Gabi following Max is also not a surprise, what with their work in Team Redline. Jack does surprise him, Max would have thought the Aussie might have followed Pierre back to Alpine, but instead he trails at the back of the pup pack with Liam. Then there’s Kimi, which Max cannot rationalise.
Of course Max lets them all into his den anyways.
There’s a moment where Max just stands there, staring at the pups.
He doesn’t want to fuck this up.

Summary
Esteban feels unmoored in the weirdest way even though all his childhood friends had left him long ago. For the first time he is alone in his hometown.
Pierre had cut Esteban off after their fight. Charles had chosen Pierre. Max had followed Charles like a celestial body orbiting its sun.
Then Max had disappeared to god knows where—off the face of the planet it seems—when he and Charles had had their…thing a while ago. Esteban isn’t sure, nobody ever told him. Then, Charles was walking into Rosberg and Son’s to give Esteban one last big hug, and promise to get him tickets to Charles’ first real concert. Then, Pierre followed Charles to the airport without even glancing back at Esteban.
Then there’s Esteban, laying down wooden interlock with Nico in the Wollf’s master bedroom because Toto had decided that he didn’t want a carpeted upstairs anymore. Something about it being harder to vacuum.
Esteban is scrolling Instagram from the warmth of his bed in the dead of another sleepless night when he finds it.
It’s some random video from some random micro-influencer from some random university in some random city on the other side of Europe.

But that guy is, the one who told Lando that he shouldn’t get a raise when he’d asked during his DJ set on the pier the night before.
Mid defending Lando to this stranger, Oscar finds out that this is Max: Liam’s boss. Lando’s boss.
“You should give him a raise,” Oscar hears himself say.
Stupid.
But Max just grins. “You haven't even seen him work.”
Oscar would like the floor to swallow him up whole, thank you for much.
“He’ll be in tomorrow, if you want to make a third party performance assessment.”
