In the market, there’s a little trunk full of kittens by a lettuce stall. The lettuce stall is owned by a shemlen man. He’s a little rude, and he’s quite scruffy, but he seems very keen on making sure that the kittens and their mother find a good home. Merrill can think of only one person to help her with the task. Perhaps there’s something about being shemlen and scruffy and rude that makes someone fond of cats? It certainly seems likely.
