Summary
The thing is that David has a thing about pain. Has always had a weird, malleable tolerance for it. Feels so numb, these days, that he chases any lasting sensation, anything that leaves a mark. Anything to remind him when and where he is, to remind him he's alive.
Pain has been a constant in his life for a long time, anyways. At least since that night in 1990.
Sometimes it's hard to remember who he's supposed to be when he's not feeling some kind of agony.
Sometimes he needs to blow off steam in more ways than one, and sometimes that need finds him in the same predictable patterns.
