He was spread open. Prodded and searched, every inch of his insides marked by the passage of the roots, no fold of his flesh too sacred to be left untouched. Fusang was healing him – that he was reasonably sure of. The roots moulded themselves to him as if they were a part of him, and whenever one would abandon a thoroughly explored spot for a fresh one, he'd mewl at the loss. More tendrils would heed his distress and come slithering to replace the lost contact.
Their desire to comfort him was as acute as it was insatiable.
~ In other words, a detailed (and very explicit) examination of just what happened in the immediate aftermath of Yi's starting fight with Eigong, after the primordial roots drag him away.

Regardless of that, Yi still puts in full-time effort towards the tireless goal of liberating Solarians and Apemen from the Jie Kingdom's iron-fisted rule. When Yi's health begins to decline, the primordial roots decide that for the sake of Yi and his baby, something must be done.
