Summary
The day Matt found out he was going to be a dad was the day he realized the hourglass was running out on his vigilante days.
After that, he no longer went out looking for a fight… for the high he felt when he won one. He no longer felt the Devil on his shoulder, grinning every time he sunk his fist into someone's flesh. He found himself saying a silent prayer every time he prepared to drop into the fray. Please let me survive this and find my way home to Karen. Please let me live to meet our baby.
Hours later, when he'd slide his arms around Karen, and recognize the now-familiar beating of two hearts alongside his own, the answer to a question he hadn't even known was there, he'd thank God for his beautiful family, promising himself he would always come home to them.
When Karen was eight months pregnant, Daredevil retired. Months passed, and though Matt heard things that made him itch to get out and help, waking up next to Karen every morning, their baby breathing sleepily or babbling, or even crying in her crib, made him realize that nothing could ever give him a greater purpose than this.

Summary
A couple months after Foggy's death, without Matt by her side, what did Karen have left to stay for? Nothing.
Alone, New York meant nothing to her. Worse than nothing… New York was a pit of despair, where even, perhaps especially, her dreams were haunted by the ghost of her former life.
When the understanding washed over her… to stay in New York would be akin to a death by a thousand cuts, she ran. She took what she needed to survive, and she didn't look back.
If she had, she might have seen the Devil himself, the ghost of the man she loved, clenching his fist, unable to bring himself to reach out to stop her.
