Summary
When Dave got a call from Aradia, he was right on that shit, he picked up the phone faster than anyone could look. She managed to wrangle some job in a commercial archaeology company, almost immediately after college. She told Dave she would ask around for jobs for him, but couldn't promise anything, so he couldn't help but hope for the best when he picked up the phone.
"I have a job."
That's what Dave was talking about, hell yeah.
"It's not in archaeology."
And Dave was fucked, once more.

Dave finds a job as a mascot for a college baseball team, with little to no baseball knowledge, and there he meets the catcher of the team, Karkat Vantas.

Summary
Dave didn't really know what to do with the goodwill baseball tickets he got from the company he worked at to try and stop them from unionising. He was never really all that into sports, besides the Astros games he had had forced down his throat in bars and the games he went to in high school. It all largely went in one ear and out the other, finding the game long and hard to get through and the rules too confusing for him to ever bother.
Four times Dave went to a baseball game to spy on his ex boyfriend, and one time it actually actually amounted to something

Karkat just grimaced slightly at the implication
“You just like to see my team getting pummelled, and it’s fucked up, and I won’t keep fucking standing for this. We’re going to win sooner or later, we all saw the spring training games.”
“Yeah you’re in the rebuild, that's been taking 20 years.”

Summary
Karkat suddenly felt a sudden pain searing through his ankle. He instinctively tipped forward under the sudden pressure to his leg, throwing his hands out to catch him. He breathed heavily out of his nose, as he hit the ground hard, trying to avoid inhaling the large amounts of dust he managed to kick up from the batters box.
This, of course, was to no avail, as he breathed in large amounts of dirt anyway, sending him into a coughing fit.
This moment probably won’t continue to haunt him for the rest of his life.
OR
Right in the middle of the ASU Wood Ducks playoff run, Karkat gets injured, he deals with it as any normal person would.

Summary
Little league was different to the kind of baseball he used to play. The stakes were lower, obviously, they were 12, but the kids seemed to love baseball in a way that Karkat felt he may have lost as he got further and further up through the ranks.
